It’s fairly obvious that I like to end my day with some music. My commitment to avoid compromising with evil has limited that greatly, as has yours, I’m sure.

The music industry is evil.

Music is not evil, however. Rather, music is very powerful, and therefore potentially a great tool for evil.

But, there are times when something decent and delightful slips through. While I know every famous band is troubled in some way, I do strongly believe we can use our discernment to delight in something wholesome, joyful, beautiful, and fun, even if it was written and performed by troubled people.

If you agree, join me in my bedtime mind vacation, and just imagine that you’ve randomly stopped by this pizza joint to witness accidentally what may be the best cover of this iconic song, ever.

This is EPIC.

For extra points, apply the words to that one ^ to the “bishops” after Vatican II.

  1. Thank you for posting this. One of my top ten songs. Their voices are so crisp & clear & the harmonies are perfect on one’s ears.

    You ever listened to SKY?

    Play this one LOUD

  3. I think a lot of people struggle with music…dance too! Music is meant to touch your soul…and that is why we are so affected and effected when we hear an amazing rendition of Toto’s Africa. We see the talent that it takes to harmonize like that and it stirs something inside. On the other hand I see how I have to be careful with certain beats in songs and genres. It’s almost like some artists are trying to elicit a carnal response when they drop a certain beat. Lyrics are another story.
Anyhoo…thanks for posting those two youtube videos.

  4. So very good.
I struggle a lot with music.
Music has always been such a huge part of my life.
Going down rabbit holes ruined so many of faves but they are still my favorites and I succumb to my guilty pleasure now and again when I am painting or doing the cleaning routine.
I also have a Sacred Music playlist that I adore and listen to often while painting.
Is it wrong to hang onto the music I listened to as a teenager & through young adulthood?
It makes me happy and brings back memories and sometimes I find myself dancing as best as one can when cleaning the fridge.
Like I said, I struggle with discerning if it is sinful.
Anyway, thank you for introducing me to this talented duo.

    1. I wish I had a clear answer to your question. I struggle with the same thing. I avoid anything sexual, offensive, or blasphemous, of course. Then, I try to avoid even seemingly good songs for which the origins are alleged to be bad, but that’s where it begins to become difficult.

I think that Satan is probably a very good bass player.

  5. I listened to that at a volume level that is probably not safe long term. Thanks.

This is one of my mind cleanse songs. Best listened to with headphones in the darkness

  6. It’s after midnight here and I was just going to bed when I saw your post. I listened to both songs and I’ve heard these versions before and loved them, but not recently. It was a lovely way to end my long day.
    Thank you.

  7. Ahhhhh…. One of my favorites. We just got back from visiting my 80 yo father in Florida, and he played a video of this song. Making me cry… God is speaking through you tonight, Michael. This confirms something very profound that happened on this trip with my father and I and our discussions on life and the faith, not always seeing eye to eye. It left my heart feeling great pain. We made peace about things with some understanding. It was truly the last thing I thought he’d be putting on YouTube. Took me right back to childhood. Thanks again. God Bless
